I had the pleasure of taking this little beauty’s newborn photos last summer and had so much fun getting to know this sweet family and their Wheaten terrier “Winnie” who I was so smitten with.
I was excited when they called about a family session this spring. I couldn’t wait to see how sweet baby “C” had grown over 10 months. We picked a location in Davidson that I use often. It’s a beautiful spot that always changes through the seasons. It even changes week to week depending upon which fields are grown and which ones have been mowed. I’m always challenged to find something new when I arrive.
This time, as I drove down the lane, I noticed these gorgeous purple wild flowers growing in the pasture along the road. I knew that when the sun went down, it would fall right behind this pasture giving me the gorgeous backlight I try to incorporate in every session.
Because the sun was still high when we arrived, we opted for a pretty spot in open shade to get started. We then moved towards the field with the flowers stopping along the way for pretty light.
One of my favorite photos (seen just below) was taken by getting up close and personal with a tree and shooting through the branches. I noticed some poison ivy on the ground but wasn’t stepping in it so it didn’t bother me much. Since I love using foliage to frame a shot and often do this with my personal photography, I was too absorbed in shooting this photo to notice that the poison ivy was crawling up the tree and touching my face…ha! I figured that out about 2 days later when I got a nice little rash. I love the shot so in my estimation it was just a small price to pay.
In the end, we made it to our flower field and got some gorgeous family photos. Little “C” was all smiles and in the perfect mood as long as she got to stay on the blanket and didn’t have to touch any of that itchy dirty grass. Too cute!
I look forward to seeing them again (and they need to bring Winnie too) but until then, here are some of my favorites from this Charlotte family’s session. Make sure you scroll all the way down to see the gorgeous sunset silhouette.
