I was excited to work with this family since this mommy used to work with my husband. I had never met her but had heard so many nice things from my husband and it was a pleasure finally meeting in person along with her beautiful family. Mom and Dad were looking for some photos of their sweet 5 month old baby girl. I recommended that we do family shots as well since the baby was at the stage where she was just learning to sit up but still not that steady. It is often helpful to use Mommy and Daddy as props when photographing young but not newborn babies. We decided that Freedom Park would be a good location for our session because it was convenient to their home. Like most Charlotte photographers, I have shot at Freedom Park many times but this time I went with a new approach. In the past, I scouted out the pretty backdrops and scenery. This time, I scouted out the pretty light knowing that light was even more important than the backdrop when it comes to beautiful photos. I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. I love working with backlighting when photographing families. I find that backlight envelops the family with warmth, love and light adding to the warm romantic feel that I love so much in family photography. Boy did we have pretty light!! Here are some of my favorites.
